Utah requires boater education for young personal watercraft operators. Anyone 12 to 17 years old must complete a Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation–approved boating safety course to operate a personal watercraft, with supervision rules for the youngest operators. The Utah Boater Education Certificate is good for life.
All individuals 12 to 17 years old must complete an approved boating safety course to operate a personal watercraft. Persons 12 to 15 may operate a PWC only if they have completed the course, carry the certificate, and are under the direct supervision of a responsible person at least 18. Persons 16 to 17 may operate a PWC with the certificate.
Utah accepts boating safety courses approved by the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation, including approved online courses. The Utah Boater Education Certificate for PWC operation does not expire.
