Last updated:

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of BoatingClasses.com (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. These Terms are effective as of May 30, 2026.

Who we are: an independent directory, not a certifying body

BoatingClasses.com is an independent, privately operated directory and comparison hub. We are not a government agency, a boating-law authority, or a certifying body. We do not issue boating licenses, boater education cards, or captain’s licenses, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any state agency, the U.S. Coast Guard, or NASBLA. We help you find and compare courses; the courses themselves are provided by independent third parties.

You must verify requirements with your state agency

Boating laws, age rules, and education requirements differ by state and change over time. Information on the Site is provided for general guidance only and may be incomplete or out of date. Before you operate a vessel or rely on any requirement, you must confirm the current rules with the official state boating agency where you boat. We link to those agencies wherever possible so you can verify directly.

Accuracy disclaimer

We work to keep listings and state information accurate and up to date, but we make no warranty that any content is correct, complete, or current. Prices, course availability, approvals, and requirements can change without notice. The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

Affiliate relationships and advertising

Some links on the Site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission when you click through and enroll, at no additional cost to you. We also display advertising and offer paid listings to schools. These relationships help fund the Site but do not influence our editorial assessments. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Site. In particular, you will not:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or to violate others’ rights.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of the content without permission.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Site or its systems.
  • Submit false, misleading, or abusive content through our forms or reviews.

Reviews and submissions

If you submit a review or other content, you confirm it is your honest, first-hand opinion and grant us a non-exclusive right to publish and display it. We moderate submissions and may edit or decline to publish content that is spam, defamatory, or violates these Terms.

Third-party sites and content

The Site links to third-party providers and resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, products, terms, or privacy practices. Any transaction you enter into with a course provider is solely between you and that provider.

Intellectual property

The Site’s editorial content, design, and branding are owned by BoatingClasses.com or its licensors and are protected by applicable law. Provider names and logos are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification only.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BoatingClasses.com and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of your use of — or inability to use — the Site or any third-party course, including any decision you make based on information found here. Your sole remedy if you are dissatisfied with the Site is to stop using it. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and your continued use of the Site means you accept the updated Terms.

Terms FAQ

Is BoatingClasses.com a government or licensing agency?
No. We are an independent, privately run directory. We do not issue boating licenses, boater education cards, or captain’s licenses, and we are not affiliated with any state agency, the USCG, or NASBLA.
Can I rely on this site for the legal requirements where I boat?
Use it as a starting point, not the final word. Boating laws change and vary by state. Always confirm the current requirements with your official state boating agency before you operate a vessel.
Do you guarantee the courses you list?
No. We provide editorial information to help you compare providers, but the courses are run by third parties. Your enrollment, payment, and any certificate are governed by that provider’s own terms.
