Readiness check — FAQ

Is this the official boater exam?
No — this is a free practice diagnostic, not a certification test. It uses the same kind of NASBLA/USCG material you’ll see on the real exam so you can spot gaps, then enroll in an approved course to get the card that counts.
How is the readiness check scored?
You answer 10 questions drawn at random from a larger pool covering navigation rules, lights, and distress signals. You get an instant score out of 10, a verdict, and the correct answers with explanations so you can learn what you missed.
Do I need to take a course if I score well?
Most states require an approved boater education card to operate legally, and a USCG captain’s license requires a formal course and exam regardless of how much you already know. A high score means the course will be quick — not that you can skip it.
